Top 4 Video Game Themed Flash Mobs!
Over at Club Mob, we DEFINITELY know, a flash mob can be used not only to bring fun, energy and excitement to an event, but to launch a new concept of product in an original way. We’ve been lucky enough to have provided flash mobs for brands like Mini Cooper, Dominos and even Disney. Whether for promotion, marketing or fun at an event, a flash mob style surprise is a wonderful way to make an impression.
Often, flash mobs can take on unique forms too, adding costumes or themes to the accepted practices of dance and performance. This certainly helps when tailoring a performance around a specific film, character or television program. One great example was a flash mob in a Madrid Ikea, which saw a performance based around the songs of ABBA, as reported by See It Live. The obvious link, for those who missed it, is Sweden, the country of origin for both ABBA and IKEA! You can also check out a flash mob we did ourselves, in IKEA Wembley, for a really unique proposal!
Over at Club Mob - we love video games. And video games have also often been used as the basis for a flash mob. With many characters involved, they make good source material as they can include many different costumes and routines within one performance. Whether impromptu at an event or planned, there have been some great video game themed mob performances. We’ve picked our favourites* out for you below!
*None of these fab mobs were done by our team… but we’re sure one of the big video game companies will soon be knocking at our door to create something really special! ;)
In 4th Place - Mortal Kombat
Okay, so the flash mob at the 2018 MegaCon in Orlando was not a perfectly scripted piece of art, but it was a fun surprise nonetheless. Obviously, a comic book convention is a place to find lots of people in costume, and in this instance, people dressed up as characters from Mortal Kombat performed an impromptu dance for other gamers. Mortal Kombat is a fighting simulator with lots of very identifiable characters and a 25-year history, giving participants lots of material to work with when it came to their costumes, and moves. We LOVE the costumes in this one, so it made the list!
No.3 - Street Fighter II
Whilst Mortal Kombat was a popular fighting game, Street Fighter II was the seminal combat game of the early eighties. Foxy Games reports how no self-respecting gamer could be without a copy, and after the Capcom original release, it became a phenomenon, spawning lots of sequels and a Hollywood film. One hugely popular flash mob, featured a character from the game squaring off against their Mortal Kombat rivals, a performance so popular it has more than 8m views on YouTube. We love the commitment from the participants in this one!
2nd Best - pokémon!
The people behind the Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat mashup in New York City were also behind this more recent effort, based on the popular video game Pokémon. Whilst Pokémon features a host of different characters, this particular performance had just one, Pikachu. However, six dancers wore bright yellow costumes alongside other dancers, bringing a smile to the people of New York going about their day.
no. 1- Mario Kart
If you think these shenanigans are confined to the United States, you’re wrong. Our very own Westfield in London was the scene of one flash mob with a slightly different theme. Instead of dancing and performing, this group raced through the mall dressed as characters from Mario Kart. Mario, Luigi and the rest of the gang are some of the most recognisable characters from the world of gaming, and it must have been quite a shock to see them whizz by as people sat having a coffee one fine morning! We love this!!
We hope you’ve enjoyed our round up of the best video game flash mobs. We think we could create something phenomenal with a video game concept so fingers crossed in the future, a Club Mob one will top this list! What do you think of these surprises? Let us know in the comments!
Big Love,
